AUSTIN – Director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Center for Health Care Policy John Davidson will testify before the Texas House Public Health Committee TODAY, Tuesday, March 24, upon adjournment in room E2.012 in the Texas State Capitol. Davidson will testify on House Bill 1945, which would enable Texas physicians to engage in direct primary care and clarify that direct primary care is not insurance.

“One of the long-standing problems in our health-care system is the third-party payment system, which hides the cost of care from patients and burdens providers with claims processing,” said Davidson. “The fact is, health insurance today isn’t really insurance in most cases, but rather a wildly inefficient form of pre-paid health care that drives up costs by hiding them from the consumer.

“HB 1945 would help restore the relationship between doctor and patient by allowing Texas physicians regulatory certainty around the practice of direct primary care. The only answer to our health care problems is to create a market-based health care system that empowers patients to be health care consumers. This bill is a big step in the right direction.”
