The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Center for Local Governance Senior Analyst Jess Fields will testify before the Texas House Committee on Government Transparency and Operation TODAY, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. CDT or upon adjournment in Room E1.014 at the Texas State Capitol. Fields will testify on House Bill 2310, which would require local governments that maintain a website to clearly display a link on its main page for citizens to make public information requests.

“Texans have a right to petition their governments for public information, and HB 2310 improves the ability of citizens to file public information requests easily through a clear link to a page for requests made under the Public Information Act on the front page of the government website, instead of burying it on an obscure webpage where citizens cannot find it,” Fields said. “Transparency is essential to good governance, and all Texans should welcome easier access to important financial transparency tools, such as the ability to make a public information act request.”
