AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation applauded new plans announced by Governor Greg Abbott to focus on protecting the most vulnerable Texans from exposure to COVID-19 while beginning to gradually open up some businesses to bring back jobs. The Governor publicly outlined his Strike Force to Open Texas as part of a three phase plan to re-engage in economic activity, saying now is the time to “come together to begin rebuilding the lives and the livelihoods of our fellow Texans.”

“Today marks a solid step forward in getting Texans back to work and starting the safe and responsible process of getting our economy moving again,” said TPPF’s Executive Director Kevin Roberts. “The Governor has given the state a strong signal that our economic prosperity is not just as important as our health but critical for our health. Decisions on opening Texas will be made based on the best possible data, which so far has us moving in the right direction. And he sent an equally significant message that local overreach will not be tolerated as Texans begin to get their lives back on track. TPPF looks forward to helping Texas leaders make sure the state is getting back to work as safely and quickly as possible.”
