AUSTIN – Director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Center for Health Care Policy John Davidson will testify before the Texas Senate Committee on Health & Human Services TODAY, Monday, March 23, at 8:00 a.m. CDT in room E1.016 in the Texas State Capitol. Davidson will testify on Senate Bills 200, 204, and 207, which relate to sunset provisions.

“The reorganization of health and human services in 2003 was an important step in the modernization of health and human services in Texas,” said Davidson. “Back then, it was necessary to take bold action to reduce costs and improve services. Now, more than a decade later, bold action is necessary again to complete the unfinished task the Legislature began in 2003.

“Beginning last year, the Sunset process has afforded the Legislature a chance to complete the reforms begun in 2003, by consolidating the state’s health and human services from five agencies down to a single regulatory agency with divisions organized according to function.

“Such reforms are not easy, and the Legislature should undertake them responsibly but also swiftly, to ensure that the benefits of consolidation are felt by the Texans who rely on programs and services administered through these agencies.”
