AUSTIN – Talmadge Heflin, Director of the Center for Fiscal Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, issued this statement on the U.S. Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade report

“For the 12th year in a row Texas is the nation’s top exporting state. The Lone Star State continues to benefit from a well-diversified economy, limited government, and pro-growth policies,” said Talmadge Heflin, Director of the Center for Fiscal Policy. “Texas is responsible for 18 percent of the nation’s $1.58 trillion in exports – despite the Texas economy constituting only 10 percent of the national total.

“Compared with the state’s big-government counterpart, California, Texas’ exports were 66 percent higher last year. Data point after data point drive home the message that limited-government policies like those in the Lone Star State are the answer for a well-functioning, job-creating economy.”

The Honorable Talmadge Heflin is Director of the Center for Fiscal Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Heflin served 11 terms in the Texas House of Representatives and chaired the House Appropriations Committee in 2003, leading the Texas Legislature’s successful efforts to close a $10 billion budget deficit without a tax increase.
