The Texas Public Policy Foundation extends its condolences to the family of longtime board member Michael Stevens, who passed away on Saturday.

Stevens was a Houston-based real-estate developer in his professional life, but Stevens also left a significant mark in the Texas public policy arena. Besides his involvement with the Foundation, he was vice chair of the Governor's Business Council and chair of its Transportation Task Force. He also chaired the Texas Transportation Education Coalition and served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Gulf Coast Regional Mobility Partners. He was also appointed by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst as a public member of the Sunset Advisory Commission.

"TPPF was so fortunate to have had the benefit of Michael's service, support, enthusiasm, and commitment to free market ideas," said Foundation chairman Wendy Lee Gramm. "His efforts on transportation and legal reform in Texas have yielded lasting results. We will all miss him, and we mourn his passing."

"Those of us who had the privilege to know Michael Stevens will always value his quick wit, charm, intellect, and friendship," said Foundation president Brooke Rollins. "He was one of the most remarkable and civic-minded Texans I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He gave freely of his time, resources, and talent to improve the quality of life for all Texans."
