AUSTIN, Texas — Governor Rick Perry expanded the Call of the Special Session to include private property rights protection in response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Kelo v New London.

“The Supreme Court’s decision exposed significant weaknesses in Texas law when it comes to protecting Texans’ private property rights,” said Bill Peacock, the economic freedom policy analyst at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. “We hope the Texas Legislature moves swiftly to protect this most basic of our rights by passing an amendment to the Texas Constitution.”

Peacock earlier this week testified before both House and Senate committees that were considering legislation to offer property rights protection to Texans. His testimony is available online at www.TexasPolicy.com.
