Members of the Texas Public Policy Foundation-led Border Security Coalition have expressed their support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s renewal of targeted, enhanced vehicle inspections across the state’s ports of entry.

Governor Abbott is correct to use all the tools at his disposal to compel immediate action and cooperation, both from U.S. federal government and Mexican authorities, to reduce the extremely dangerous level of illegal border crossings from the various Mexican border states that previously signed agreements to work with the Governor to reduce the illegal trafficking of aliens and drugs,” said the eight-member group, which includes former Acting U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, retired U.S. Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott and Texas Public Policy Foundation CEO Greg Sindelar, among others.

Holding Mexican authorities accountable for their commitments to reduce the current illegal immigration fueling today’s border crisis demonstrates a level of leadership needed at this time.  With Title 42 restrictions about to expire, the State of Texas has every right to use the substantial, lawful leverage it possesses to deter the explodingcartel-controlled human and drug smuggling activity coming across its border. Governor Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety should continue to expand Operation Lone Star’s successful strategies to fill the gap left by the catastrophic failures of the Biden administration’s irresponsible open border policies, as well as complicit Mexican authorities.”
